Receive this rental and due to the writing of the last person using it, you can barely see the text in the book. The person's writing is so distracting when you're trying to read what little of the text you can see.

I thought te text was easy to follow. The typos are typical in the early editions of textbooks. It is succinct and straight forward. The author took care to make it easy on the eyes and not super heavy or needlessly thick.

This text is not well written. At times it gives an adequate discussion of the material and at other times, it is very lacking. sometimes the end of chapter questions and discussion within the chapter do not line up. If you can avoid it, I do NOT recommend this text.

If you are truly serious about learning hematology for practical application, get a real textbook and leave this starter one for others.

The book was marked new. It arrived with SEVERAL bent pages.

I really like this book. I love that it tells me step-by-step what to do next. The author really took the time to explain every step and that's what I need. I've already completed my first drawing and I just got it yesterday. Can't wait to do more! :) Also, I didn't really read to see if it explains in the product description page on Amazon which pencils she uses, but she uses a hard lead type, a soft lead type and a medium clay-based lead type. I only have the Prismacolor Premier set, so I just used similar colors (the author took the time to list the names of each color used, along with a sample of the color). I did enjoy myself enough to go ahead and order a set of Verithins for my next project.

The title is misleading this does not teach you to draw bird but color them, one drawing example of one bird in the whole book, very disappointed, gave it 2 stars because the images are good and some of the instruction is good but it doesn't do me any good without the basic drawing lesson much needed, my opinion is to much written instruction and seriously lacking visual instruction on drawing but decent instruction on coloring, i will include some pics so you decide for yourself seeing how they lack any look inside, showing pics of a whole lesson on one bird, last pic is actually page 1 then pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 not even an outline to get started I'm very dissapointed in this book if you need help with colors may be good for you but if your looking to learn to draw a bird this is not the one for you

This is a lovely book. More about pencil technique than about birds. There are a few pages at the beginning about bird anatomy and eyes, etc. but it is mostly about how to use colored pencils and all of the examples for the exercises are birds. The bird drawings are all beautiful and realistic and I cant wait to draw all of them. One thing I really like is that the author not only tells you where to use a certain stroke but she tells you the effect you will get - the why. For example page 74: " Add small, very light patches of Umber (medium lead type) randomly on the chest to indicate fluffiness" then there is an arrow on that part of the picture example that corresponds "indicate fluffiness". You will learn so much by following her directions!! I see why other reviewers have said their colored pencil skills improved after using this book. This is an excellent book and there is much more in it than my one example. This one is a winner.

I bought this book actually to use for watercolor. However the examples are so pretty and the technique very clearly shown that it made me think about giving colored pencils a try. It's really a very nice book to look through and helpful if you are wanting to expand your nature drawings to include birds.

Kaaren's book has wonderful instructions on drawing birds with colored pencils. I struggled with form and also color saturation. After following this book, my drawing of birds has improved so much! My drawings from her book look nearly identical. Her layering effect with colors makes all the difference in the color saturation. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in drawing birds (or anything) with colored pencils. She breaks down each drawing with what colors she uses at each stage, until it is finished. She also goes into the different pencile strokes she uses to create different effects. You won't be disappointed if you buy this book!

I have many books about drawing, watercolor and colored pencil in my library. This is without a doubt, hands down, the best book in my art-related library about the use of colored pencils! The author is thorough, yet accessible in her methodology and general background and enormously helpful in her book full of step by step illustrations. Each drawing has a sketch and illustrations of several steps toward a finished drawing, including a detailed color guide for each drawing. This is particularly helpful, whether you choose to use Prismacolor or Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils. I am delighted with the purchase!

I just received Drawing Bitds with Colored Pencils by Karen Poole. I am delighted with it. There are beautiful examples of many different birds. I love the tips she gives for the various birds, the list of supplies, and the directions for each of the birds. I have been working with Colored Pencils for about 10 months. I believe that I will learn a great deal from this author and I believe that I will have a great time doing it.

Great book, very detailed, step by step illustrated instructions. There are a lot of useful tips throughout the book as well. I'm a beginner, I've worked with watercolor pencils but have never done anything with just colored pencils. The drawings are intricate, and definitely more for an "artist" . Not a book for beginners. You need to be able to draw really well .
