About the Author
Currently teaching animation and character design at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Nancy has worked for nearly thirty years as a supervising animator, director, character designer, and storyboard artist. A graduate of the Character Animation Program at the California Institute of the Arts, Nancy worked in development and as a supervising animator on several Disney features including A Goofy Movie, Hercules and Treasure Planet. She was nominated for an Annie award in 2000 for storyboarding Little Angelita for Disney and won a Cine Golden Eagle in 1984 for her personal film Your Feets' Too Big. Nancy is a member of the National Cartoonists Society and the Australian Black and White Cartoonists Club. In recent years she has illustrated two children's books, Duffy and the Invisible Crocodile and Basil Bigboots the Pirate for Australian writer Patricia Bernard in 2004, and taught at the Savannah College of Art And Design.

I heard of this book at a conference and it was really the first time I'd heard about this idea. To be honest, I really poo-pooed the idea at first and was simply intrigued when the topic was part of a seminar. I ordered this book when I returned but didn't dive into it much at first ~ there were some other books I had also ordered that were shorter and quicker reads. And to be perfectly honest, I didn't want to read something that contradicted with my beliefs. I have a BA in Biology and am a Christian, so I didn't want something so "New Agey" that would go against years of training for Biology or try to sway me from my Christian beliefs. I'm glad I started this though. I'd like to say I kept an open mind, but I probably didn't when I first started it. Truman did a very good job of explaining the biology at the beginning, and also wove faith throughout the book (no matter what faith you follow). I found the tools very applicable and useful. She not only explains how this works, but why it works and how to use it. It's now one of my most-referenced books that I use.

The Author spent a little too much time on her assumption that all feelings are ingrained in us BEFORE we are six years old. I disagree with that, as I know from personal experience that the negative feelings I have experienced have come in the last few years from very recent traumas. I did not have buried alive feelings until recently. But regardless of when the feelings were experienced, they ARE buried alive and never die.... without some help from authors like Karol Truman. Feelings Buried Alive and Never Die is a great title, as it personifies what is really happening. She takes deep, almost ineffable concepts, and phrases them in a way that really clarify feelings I've had. The way she explains things makes a lot of sense and gave me many "Ah-Ha" moments. I got more help from this book than countless hours of therapy could ever have done.

I know, from reading all the other reviews, that I am not alone in my sincere appreciation for the work of Karol K Truman in composing the book "Feelings Buried Alive Never Die." But why did it take me so long to find it? I think this book is must-read, must-share, must-remember resource for living a healthy life. It stands above other books about the importance of feelings by its sheer volume of intriguing and useful information.Feelings Buried Alive Never Die is a book that explains in 21 chapters how emotional health impacts physical health. This is something often overlooked and downplayed in mainstream medicine, even though there are countless scientific experiments (which she shares) that prove how the electrical current of your emotions affect the function of your organs and nervous system. In the first few chapters Karol explains what emotions, feelings, thoughts, and beliefs are - as well as how your childhood experiences develop these aspects of life. Too many of us suppress and bottle up our emotions without realizing that they will stick with us.One unique section of her book is the "Probable Feelings Causing Illness" chart that covers over 200 ailments (like candidiasis, anxiety, and liver problems) with exercises to help you work through and release their related feeling.These exercises are amazing. My favorite chapter, chapter 17, addresses feelings and beliefs that are related to success. In it, she matches negative feelings with positive scripts to read aloud to uplift your mood and put you in a space of confidence and self-love. As she says in the book, "It can literally take the slums out of you, and then you change your environment."I truly believe that by earnestly practicing the principles in Feelings Buried Alive Never Die, a person can overcome their emotional baggage and achieve major healing. In the months around my wedding engagement I had a terrible mix of illness and depression all because I was scared that lust for a friend would ruin my marriage with my true love. Things were ugly :/ But, by learning how to identify and release my emotions, I experienced a miraculous recovery and lived through my engagement and wedding, happily, with both men in their rightful places in my life.The bottom line is that the information on this book should be shared with everyone! It's a top ten book for me, absolutely. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is smart enough to realize that releasing unresolved negative emotions can only led to a happier life. Think about it, don't you want to feel happy? Do you really think that permanent happiness can be found by buying things or having the right relationship? Unfortunately these only can make you happy for a short time. And then it's off to the next thing or the next person. So what's keeping you from finding happiness?Spiritual leaders teach that true happiness can only come from inside you. So what's preventing you from feeling happy all the time? Well, basically it's because we all have hidden dark emotional baggage that gets in the way of the spiritual light (that light is who we are) from shinning out. The technique taught in this book will help you release this baggage gently and permanently.Everybody has lifetimes of 'stuff' to release. I've been using the 'Script' (the main technique in this book) for many years. I've used it so many times I have it memorized. I want you to know that by using this technique faithfully, life does get easier and a lot lighter.Seriously, get this book, do the Script work, live a better life.

I have worked as a mental health professional for twenty years. For the past nineteen years, I have referred to this book when clients with severe mental health problems present with medical problems. The book is on target ninety-nine percent of the time! I don't know how the author made the connections, but they are quite accurate.

It is an interesting read. On one hand, it seems uplifting and helps you recognize your feelings and respond in a healthy way instead of react or bury them. The science of storing emotion in cells was very interesting. On the other hand the spirituality and perspective may be of-putting to some. I have a strong faith and just took everything with a grain of salt, being open to learning, but not swallowing everything. There are some exercises that you can do or turn into prayer of your own that could be very beneficial. I did use them for a bit, and then tried some other approaches.

There's a nightmarish sense of the domestic transformed in these interconnected stories about a 10-year-old loner. When Peter is quiet, it's because he's having "the weirdest" adventures in his head. They're experiences that grow out of the clutter of the kitchen drawer or the bombardment at the breakfast table. He loves his parents, but they crowd him. What would happen if he used vanishing cream? How would it feel to swap bodies with a cat, with a baby, with a grown-up? To actually, viscerally, be those creatures and still have your 10-year-old consciousness? The episode about the defeat of a bully is unconvincing, and at the end, Peter is too articulate about being on the edge of adulthood. But British author McEwan (whose prizewinning adult novels have been filmed) writes simple, visual prose--comic, deadpan, and lyrical--that captures the physicalness of the wild fantasy. The uneasiness remains. Things are put back together, but the world is not exactly right. The illustrations were not seen in galley, but there could be no better expression of Peter's vision than the kind of surreal artwork Browne has used in such books as Changes (1990), where the mundane is suddenly mad. Adults think that Peter Fortune is a difficult child because he sits by himself and stares into space. But, except for resultant absentmindedness, like forgetting his little sister on a bus, Peter's daydreams are usually harmless flights of fancy. The Daydreamer includes seven of these flights and four of them--``The Dolls,'' ``The Cat,'' ``The Baby,'' and ``The Grown-Up''--are metamorphosis experiences. ``The Cat'' is a beautiful story that tells of Peter's spirit climbing into the body of his old house cat, William. While in William's body, Peter experiences life as a cat and fights William's last territorial battle for him. Some of Peter's other experiences are less benign. For example, many children flirt with the idea of making their families disappear, but the way Peter goes about it in ``Vanishing Cream'' is rather gruesome. And when Peter verbally defeats the school bully in ``The Bully,'' Peter himself acknowledges that his words are unduly harsh. Although McEwan presents Peter as a sweet introvert, Peter proves himself to be far from that. Novelist McEwan's first book for children contains some magical moments but is marred by being often repetitive and occasionally mean-spirited.
